The School for Church Webmasters

Composite image of several church website home pages.

This is an e-learning site being developed by Great Church Websites, Inc.. The purpose of the site is to provide basic training online at relatively low cost to volunteer (primarily) and paid staff members of Christian — Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox — churches and parishes around the world.

Great Church Websites is developing this school to give church and parish webmasters the knowledge and skills they need to create and deploy websites for their church or parish that better glorify God and help to fulfill the Great Commission. The school is not a substitute for formal, accredited (but costly) studies for those who desire to pursue a career in web design.

The seven tracks

The school's non accredited Basic and Advanced Church Webmaster Certificate programs are both divided into seven tracks, listed at left. In each track, some modules are taken by students in the Basic Certificate program; the rest are taken by students in the Advanced Certificate program.

Each track is comprised of between five and 13 modules covering different topics, and spanning the two certificate programs. For more information about the tracks and modules, click the "Certificates" link above. For more information about the individual tracks, see the links at left.

How to register

The school is not operational yet — it's still being developed. Once the school is operational, just follow the link above to register.

There will be no registration deadline — students can register and begin their studies at any time. Once a module is begun, however, students must complete it within a specified period of time. Students must complete a certificate program within two years. Students also must make satisfactory and continual progress toward the completion of a certificate.

What's next?

By 1 July 2008, I hope to have added more than 70 third-level pages. These describe the modules or courses.

By 15 July 2008, I hope to have added the ability for visitors to comment and make suggestions about the courses.

Lastly...

For those who care about such matters, this site is entirely hand-coded.

Status report

As of August 2008, the courses for this school are not developed yet. Doing so requires many tens of thousands of dollars to be raised first.

Therefore, the purposes of this website in its current state are threefold:

1. To get volunteer church and parish webmasters interested in the school.

2. To obtain input from experienced church and parish webmasters regarding the courses to be offered by the school.

3. To provide information about the school to potential financial donors. This is part of my goal to raise money to launch the school.

If you're interested in helping to make the school a reality, please email me using the "Contact us" link below.

We will need money (donations), people who'll be paid to create the courses, and individuals to serve on an advisory board.
